- Academic ExcellenceHofstra UniversityAdvancing Academic Excellence and Social Mobility for First-Generation StudentsHofstra established the Office of First-Generation Support and Engagement to provide specialized support and individual coaching for students in crisis, just in time messaging and nudges to keep all students on track and expanded community engagement programming to increase overall sense of belonging. Since its founding four years ago, first-generation student first to second year retention rates have risen 5%, nearly closing the achievement gap with their continuing-generation peers. As a result of these and other efforts, Hofstra University was named a First-Gen Forward Champion Campus in 2025.
