SUNY Reconnect makes an associate degree free for New Yorkers aged 25 to 55 who do not yet hold a college degree. At SUNY Niagara, eligible students can enroll in 16 associate degree programs in high-demand fields, from Childhood Education Studies to Welding Technology, with tuition, fees, books, and supplies covered after other financial aid is applied.
The college built the program around the realities of adult learners. Flexible scheduling and online options let students keep working while they study, and beginning in fall 2026, nursing students who already hold a prior degree are also eligible.
Early results are encouraging. The fall 2025 persistence rate for first-time and transfer Reconnect students was 83.1%. In September 2026, SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. visited SUNY Niagara to highlight the program.
