SUNY Oneonta
At SUNY Oneonta, students succeed because of the university’s unwavering commitment to expanding career pathways through advising, internships, and professional development; addressing affordability through financial support for experiential learning; and strengthening academic excellence through proactive student support and academic momentum. Together, these three priorities enable students to participate fully in their education, make progress toward graduation, and prepare for future opportunities.

Affordability
SUNY Oneonta’s approach to affordability includes the costs of participating fully in the educational experience. Internship stipends help address financial barriers that can limit students’ access to experiential learning. In 2025–26, the university awarded $502,585 in internship stipends, and every student requesting eligible internship funding received support. This investment helps create the conditions for students to pursue experiences that strengthen their education and expand their opportunities after graduation. On-campus housing costs are guaranteed for four years so students do not need to worry about the rising costs of housing. A fully endowed Student Emergency Fund provides up to $50,000 in emergency assistance to help students facing an unforeseen event or an unexpected need for aid.

Academic Excellence
SUNY Oneonta is strengthening academic excellence and momentum by helping students overcome barriers to learning and stay on track to graduate. Early identification, coordinated outreach, and academic support help students address challenges that can interrupt their education. Advising, course planning, and registration support help students maintain progress toward graduation. Together, these efforts create the conditions for students to succeed academically, persist, and complete their degrees.

Career Pathways
SUNY Oneonta connects academic learning with career exploration and preparation through career advising, internships, employer engagement, and professional development. The Career Planning & Networking Center supports students as they explore their interests, gain experience, and prepare for opportunities beyond graduation. In 2025–26, the Center recorded 4,760 student interactions and supported 527 internships. According to the 2025-26 NSSE survey results, 91% of seniors participated in at least one high-impact educational practice, and 71% participated in two during their time as a SUNY Oneonta student. SUNY Oneonta is also developing Oneonta EDGE—Explore, Develop, Grow, Engage—to connect experiential learning more intentionally with students’ academic and professional development. Through two designated EDGE experiences, students will have opportunities to apply their learning, explore interests, develop skills, and engage beyond the classroom. With a pilot planned for Fall 2027, EDGE will build on the university’s existing experiential learning opportunities and help students recognize and articulate how those experiences prepare them for what comes after graduation.
