Connecting Adult Learners to Career Guidance and Professional Networks

UMGC provides lifetime career guidance, digital tools, internship resources, and alumni networking to help learners prepare for career opportunities.

A career rarely unfolds in a straight line. A working adult may be preparing for a first promotion, a servicemember may be transitioning into a civilian field, and a graduate may be considering a new direction years after earning a degree. For each, career guidance is most valuable when a new opportunity or challenge arises, not only in the final term of college.

UMGC makes career services available to students and alumni throughout their professional lives. Through CareerQuest, learners can access an integrated career ecosystem that brings together advising, employment opportunities, networking, experiential learning, career exploration, events, and on-demand tools in one environment. This includes comprehensive career assessments to investigate interests and career pathways, along with AI-powered tools to strengthen their resumes and LinkedIn profiles.

This approach recognizes that career readiness comes from experience and relationships, not information alone. UMGC’s InternPLUS resource connects learners with experiential opportunities ideal for working adults, including project-based micro-internships, virtual job simulations, volunteer projects, and traditional internships. Community Connect provides students and alumni access to a global network of 24K+ alumni who have opted to share industry perspectives and advice. For learners balancing employment, family, and other responsibilities, these varied forms of engagement offer flexible ways to explore future career possibilities while managing their current commitments.

Together, these services reflect a practical commitment to helping learners connect their education with opportunities beyond the classroom and ensuring career support remains available as their goals evolve. University-wide graduate career survey findings can provide broader context about educational and career value, but they should not be interpreted as evidence that any single career service or resource produced those outcomes.
